Details
Helen Reddy was born on the 25th October 1942 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, from a show business family. As a child performer she had starred in her own television show in Australia before winning the first prize in a talent contest in 1966. The prize was a trip to New York. Whilst in New York she appeared on the Tonight Show, attracting the interest of Capitol Records, eventually leading to a recording agreement. 1971 led to a hit single with I Don't Know How to Love Him, from the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice production Jesus Christ Superstar. 1972 saw the extremely powerful I Am Woman, which not only became the feminist anthem, but it was also a million seller and over the next five years Helen had a dozen further hit singles, notably Delta Dawn in 1973, Angie Baby in 1974, I Cant Hear You No More in 1976 and Youre My World in 1977. Helen also became a TV personality during these years and after hosting the Midnight Special Show and taking a cameo acting role for the film The Man Who Loved Women in 1983. Helen was still very much a popular artist doing tour and TV appearances worldwide up until her unfortunate death on the 29th of September 2020, where she passed away in Los Angeles, California. The world will always remember Helens great talent, her hit songs and her lasting legacy.
