Details
The Foundations, originally a multiracial Octet made up of Londoners and West Indians were most active in the latter years of the sixties. Whilst running their own club in London, they would rehearse after closing time and many would later describe how they successfully imitated the Motown sound. A collaboration with Tony Macaulay brought an instant debut hit with Baby, Now That You ve Found Me in late 1967. A string of hits followed in 1968 and 1969, including Build Me Up Buttercup which hit No 3 in the USA. However, the success did not last, with internal struggles within the band led to several members leaving, being replaced several times over the years. Lead vocalist, Clem Curtis, was the only constant member throughout the decades and still performs to this day.
